The Museum at DLSU honors Doreen G. Fernandez

The Museum at De la Salle University (DLSU) commemorate the 10th  death anniversary of Doreen G. Fernandez through the exhibit entitled “Food for Thoughts: A Celebration of Good Taste,” organized to honor Doreen as writer, teacher, friend, and benefactor.

The DLSU Museum celebrates the life of Ms. Doreen by showcasing her personal memorabilia in the midst of her books on Philippine literature, theater, food, education, the performing arts, and the visual arts that she and her husband Wili Fernandez collected and bequeathed to the DLSU Museum for its best educational purposes and practices.

And while her books, as she rightly asserts, are the core of her rich legacy, she is remembered by many grateful institutions for her time and zeal in service, whether she sat in their board of trustees, gave directions to an academic department, chose excellent compositions by her freshman students for taking up in class, or gave a lecture on the craft of interviewing.

Hers is an entire life that offers all of us thought not only for a day, but for life. All these, in Doreen G. Fernandez’s good taste.

Ms. Lalyn Buncab opened the exhibit with a brief history of how DLSU became the custodian of the Wili and Doreen Fernandez private collection. She also talked about the different works of art that compromised the collection. Before the program ended, Besa shared her message to the guests on behalf of Doreen’s family.

The sister of the late Doreen G. Fernandez, Ms. Della Besa, graced the viewing, held last July 27. She shared her memories with her sister too.

Items in the exhibit include memorabilia of Doreen such as books, art works, trophies,
Photographs and plaques that carry the theme of food. The exhibit will run at the museum at DLSU until August for more information on the museum, please visit www.themuseum.dlsu.edu.ph or call 524-4611 loc 368.
