#NowPH :One Million Filipino Youth voices for Climate Action
Do you know that the Philippines is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate and disaster risks? Philippines is ranked as the third most vulnerable country to extreme weather events in 2013, when Typhoon Haiyan wrought havoc in the Visayas region (Germanwatch, 2015). In addition, sea level rise threatens coastal communities and draft have been seriously affecting health and agricultural productivity.
This 2015, the #NowPH : One Million Filipino Youth Voices for Climate Action campaign of Climate Change Commission (COC) and the National Youth Commission (NYC), with the support of partners such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Building Low Emission Alternatives to Develop Economic Resilience and Sustainability (B-Leaders) Project, will unite the voice of the Filipino Youth for the 2015 Paris Climate Conference in the call to prevent global warming from reaching 2 degrees celsius. The #NowPh or Not on Our Watch campaign will empower young people to raise public consciousness on the science of climate change and ways to lead a climate-e
resilient and climate-smart lifestyle by promoting 15 Ways to Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS) in schools and communities
Our favorite Kapuso actor, Dingdong Dantes is a proud supporter of this campaign. Last week, he joined representative from Dakila and Greenpeace to explain more of the #NowPH campaign.
According to Dingdong Dantes, to rally the Filipino youth for the 2015 Paris climate conference at least 1 million signatures and expressions of support will be gathered from different parts of the Philippines true online and offline platforms including, but not limited to, an online registration portal ( ww.nowph.org ) offline signature campaignd, media promotuons, and workshops. This will be the presented to the president of COP 21.
As part of the of the Filipino youth, we must sign up now in the part of the million voices for climate action. Your organization can also support this campaign and commit to;
-- Promoter at least one of the 15 ways
-- Volunteer your resources for the campaign, and
-- Cascade the campaign to your stakeholder and / or constituency.
Here's the 15 Ways to LEDS (Low Emission Development Strategies)
1. Grow a tree.
2. Switch off and unplug.
3. Good bye plastic.
4. Segregate.
5. Reduce, reuse and recycle
6. No to burning of wastes
7. Promote renewable energy
8. Bring your own tumbler
9. Use energy efficient appliances
10. Walk, bike or carpool.
11. Recycle electronics and batteries.
12. Familiarize yourself with environmental and energy laws.
13. Save water: use pail, dipper and cups.
14. Think before you print.
15. Support earth-friendly products.
